List of 4 famous Trails to Hike near Boone

Profile Trail

Grandfather Mountain is one of North Carolina’s most gorgeous, but also rough, vistas. If you want to walk this trail, be prepared for a full day of ups and downs, as well as some clever footwork at points. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture the beauty of it all. This path begins at the Profile Trail parking lot off of NC Hwy 105 N and finishes at the Grandfather Trail at Calloway Gap, ascending around 1700 feet in over 3 miles. Plan on soaking in the scenery, and if you’re lucky, you’ll see some seasonal wildflowers if you hit the route at the proper time. You stroll under a canopy of trees as you cross the flowing Watauga River. You ultimately join the Grandfather Trail on a hard track of tumble-down rock, and there are areas of this trail that are not suggested for dogs. You’ll be OK with some smart footwork, and you’ll be rewarded with some magnificent vistas of peaks along the route.

Sims Creek

Sims Creek, often known as Green Knob, is a mild to moderate loop path in Julian Price Memorial Park in Blowing Rock. Sims Creek Trail is a 2-mile circle that may be accessed from either the Sims Pond Overlook or the Sims Creek Overlook. Start your journey from Sims Pond in the morning and travel north east down Sims Creek to a meadow with a wonderful vista of Grandfather Mountain. The route eventually leaves the pond by crossing a bridge over Sims Creek. The Sims Creek Viaduct is just beneath the path.

Rough Ridge

If you want to snap a couple shots, scenic vistas, and broad views to frame at home, this is the trek to take. The climb on Rough Ridge provides stunning Instagram-worthy mountain vistas of Grandfather Mountain and the Linn Cove Viaduct. Begin with a short uphill climb along a boardwalk from the parking lot. Continue climbing for another 1/2 mile to the Rough Ridge peak (elevation 4,773 feet), which will not disappoint! Get your camera ready! You may sit on various huge stones along the walk to take in the scenery. Organize a picnic! The tallest rock at the peak has wires to assist you in reaching the top. The total ascent from the parking area is 480 feet.

The Horton Hike, by Fulton Lovin

This route is a delight, and it’s located only feet from The Horton Hotel on the Appalachian State University campus. You begin by strolling across campus before passing through enormous tunnels of Rhododendron blossoms. Even the APP football and baseball stadiums can be seen from the route. Hikers may enjoy a tranquil walk that runs through the Appalachian State University Nature Preserve while looking out over a lively downtown Boone.
