BARK CARVING DEMONSTRATION
Moses Cone Manor, Blue Ridge Parkway, Blowing Rock, October 10–13, 10–4PM
Tom Gow will demonstrate how he creates charming, imaginable homes out of cottonwood tree bark. The Moses Cone Manor’s porch will be the location of this presentation.

INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS SCREENING
Appalachian Theatre, Downtown Boone, October 11, 7 p.m.
The 1956 horror movie in noir style is being shown at the historic Appalachian Theatre of the High Country for just $5!

Blowing Rock Art & History Museum, October 11, 3:30
Join us for imaginative art-making activities using a range of media, from clay to watercolor, for kids aged 6 to 12. Each week, a well-known author, book, and theme.

October 11, 3:30pm, Yadkin Valley Marketplace, Wilkesboro
supplying things manufactured by hand and locally produced, including food such as meat, eggs, and dairy as well as baked goods.

The newest farmer’s market in Boone is located on King Street and has fresh vegetables, eggs, meats, goat cheese, baked goods, and value-added delicacies from nearby farms, many of which are unique to Watauga County.

Various, Appalachian Theatre, Downtown Boone, October 12, 1pm
A 15-minute short video tracing the history of the theater and including first-hand viewpoints is included in the tour, which also includes a walkthrough of the location. The tours go for around 45 minutes and are free.

Downtown Boone, Jones House, October 13, 7 p.m.
Old-time fiddle and folk songs will be played by local musicians until the “last call for tunes” at 9:45 p.m. Bring an acoustic instrument to play along, or simply come and listen.

Buckeye Recreation Center, Beech Mountain, October 14, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
These treks will teach you about the science of why leaves change color in the fall, what local wildlife is doing at this time of year, and how beautiful the leaves are. Please dress appropriately for the weather and use adequate footwear. Call 828-387-3003 for further details.

October 14–16, various studios in Sparta, North Carolina, area
Interact with 15 different artists in their various studio settings to foster a positive relationship between the general population and the arts community.

RAKU POTTERY DEMONSTRATION
Moses Cone Manor, Blue Ridge Parkway, Blowing Rock, October 14–16, 10–4pm
Potter In order to be ready to fire his pots in a raku kiln, John Turner will demonstrate his glazing methods.

14.10.17, Downtown West Jefferson, 5-7 p.m.
Take advantage of the chance to view fresh, imaginative, and cutting-edge works from Ashe County’s top artists. Crawlers are welcome to roam the streets, check out the galleries, see the murals in the downtown area, take in the various works of outdoor art, and make use of the eateries in the area.

Cost: NONE Age groups: 1-4, 5-10, 11-15. Each age group’s biggest catch receives a reward. As required, fishing equipment is supplied.

BOONE NC WATAUGA COUNTY FARMERS MARKET
October 15, 8am-1pm, Horn in the West, Boone
Offers local produce, meats, and flowers plus live music, cooking demos and children’s activities

15th of October, Horn in the West, Boone, 8am to 1pm
a covered outdoor market that is situated on a West Jefferson side street. Fresh, regionally produced foods, nursery plants, home-baked goodies, and handcrafted items.

October 15, Valle Crucis Conference Center, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In a stunning medieval mountain hamlet, there will be 150 top-quality crafts from the Southeast, a variety of delicacies, and entertainment.

15-16 October, 9 to 6 p.m., Downtown Banner Elk
Visitors and mountain bikers may ride the Summit Express chairlift up 1,200 feet from Sugar Mountain’s base to its 5,300-foot top. Live music, over 150 vendors, a kids’ section, food trucks, and more entertainment like woolly worm races.

SUGAR MOUNTAIN SCENIC LIFT RIDES
Sugar Mountain Resort, October 14–16, 10–6 p.m.
A single roundtrip sightseeing ride costs $18. (all ages)
